Two Family Planning Champions Appointed As Ministers In Uganda

H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda appointed two strong champions for family planning and reproductive health. Advance Family Planning partners in Uganda, Partners in Population and Development Africa Regional Office and Reproductive Health Uganda, look forward to collaborating with the family planning champions to achieve progress. Hon. Matia Kasaija was appointed Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development in Uganda’s Cabinet on March 1, 2015.  He served as the State Minister for Finance (Planning) in the Cabinet of Uganda for four years from May 27, 2011 until February 28, 2015. During his tenure he was also a Board Member of Partners in Population and Development (PPD) and a strong advocate for family planning and reproductive health. He is also the elected Member of Parliament for Buyanja County, Kibaale District.
 
Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi is a Ugandan physician, public health specialist, demographer, and politician. He is also now the State Health Minister for General Duties in the Ugandan Cabinet. He was appointed on March 1, 2015, replacing Hon. Dr.  Elioda Tumwesigye who was appointed Minister of Health.  Dr. Baryomunsi is a strong advocate for population and development, reproductive health, including family planning, as well as HIV/AIDS. He also serves as the elected Member of Parliament for Kinkiizi County East. Hon. Dr. Baryomunsi is the Chair of the African Parliamentary Forum on Population and Development.  He is also the Chair of the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Food Security, Population and Development.
