Francophone West African countries have some of the highest total fertility rates in the world and the lowest modern contraceptive prevalence rates (mCPR). The average mCPR for all women in the nine Ouagadougou Partnership (OP) countries is 18.2%[1]

In collaboration with PAI, Marie Stopes International, Family Planning 2020 (FP2020), and the Ouagadougou Partnership Coordination Unit, AFP is working with OP countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo) to examine advocacy opportunities and accelerate progress on meeting FP2020 commitments.

The partners identified youth and adolescent access to contraceptives as their top advocacy priority and held a meeting in March 2019 to develop joint strategies on the issue.
