Advance Family Planning partners Tulane International and the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health facilitated a three-day media advocacy workshop for advocates and journalists in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Twenty-six participants—representing government partners, national and subnational advocacy working groups, local media houses, and civil society organizations—convened to strengthen communication and advocacy skills and draft new media advocacy action plans to complement AFP's policy advocacy efforts.

GOAL
Support advocacy collaborators to develop and execute a SMART media advocacy strategy  

OBJECTIVES
Participants:

  • Learned about AFP’s SMART approach and achievements in the DRC
  • Learned about AFP’s media advocacy efforts in Africa and Asia
  • Sharpened skills on advocacy communication and media engagement
  • Drafted media advocacy action plans for the DRC
