The Government of Togo passed a Community-Based Intervention National Policy (PNIBC) on February 13, 2015 to integrate new maternal and child health high-impact approaches including the distribution of injectables at the community level.
On June 12, 2015 the Ministry of Health and Social Action authorized the first prescription of the pill by community health workers (relais communautaires) serving in 10 out of the 14 regions in Senegal. The community health intervention areas in the regions are operated by Action and Development (AcDev) and Association Sénegalaise pour le Bien Etre Familial (ASBEF). AcDev’s advocacy, with the support of the Opportunity Fund, led to the authorization.
The Commune of Bobo Dioulasso adopted its first budget allocation for family planning services on March 10, 2015. The allocation of 1,000,000 FCFA (USD 2,000) will be included in Bobo Dioulasso’s Communal Development Plan 2014-2015.
The rural commune of Kelbo in Burkina Faso included family planning funding and activities in its five-year Communal Development Plan (2015-2019) for the first time, as a result of Family Care International (FCI) Burkina Faso’s advocacy efforts supported by the Opportunity Fund.

Mayor Amadou Diarra signed a commitment letter on January 5th, 2015 to invest 10 million FCFA (US $18,305) of the 2015 budget (a total of US $1,482,500) to purchase family planning products for the two health posts in the North Pikine commune of Senegal. AFP and Futures Group collaborated with Réseau Siggil Jigéen (RSJ) to achieve this Quick Win – a discrete funding increase or policy advancement.
On November 7, 2014, the Ministry of Health of Burkina Faso signed an important memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Advance Family Planning partner Equilibres & Population (EquiPop) authorizing a task-sharing pilot project for family planning services.
In Burkina Faso, in October 2014, sixteen mayors have committed to include family planning in their respective communal development plans. The plans are currently being developed and will be validated by the end of December 2014 and will cover a period of five years. Moreover, the Mayor of Kindi committed to allocating 250,000 FCFA ($487.00 USD) to contribute to the delivery of family planning services in the health centers in his commune (see attached documents in French and English).
