In June 2019, 68 local government authorities (LGAs) in Tanzania invested in family planning to potentially unlock 37 billion Tanzanian Shillings (TSH) (US $16.2 million) from the Global Financing Facility (GFF). Increasing local investment and family planning performance enables LGAs to access additional domestic and global funds dedicated to improving reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH).

On February 28th, Tanzania’s National Bureau of Statistics launched a National Population Projections Report (2013-2035) based on the 2012 national census.
The East African Legislative Assembly committee recently conducted public hearings on the East African Community (EAC) Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Bill 2017 in its five member countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda). The committee, which held public hearings for Tanzania on Feb 22nd in Dar es Salaam, agreed to integrate recommendations on various sections of the bill from the recently-established Tanzania Youth and Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (TAYARH) Coalition and Advance Family Planning (AFP) local partners.
This month, 13 Indonesian district heads and mayors from districts and municipalities signed a joint commitment to revitalize, sustain, and support their local family planning program. The joint commitment illustrates the lasting support of local leaders that have implemented the Advance Family Planning (AFP) advocacy initiative and the Improving Contraceptive Method Mix (ICMM) project funded by USAID and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
In early March 2016, a high-level delegation from Nepal’s Ministry of Health family planning division and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) visited Indonesia. The tour aimed to showcase Indonesia’s successful advocacy and social and behavior change communication approaches, which could be relevant to the Nepali context.

Advance Family Planning (AFP) took the 2016 International Conference on Family Planning’s theme of “Global Commitments, Local Actions” to heart by conducting a workshop for action-oriented advocacy entitled "Fostering Locally-Driven Advocacy for Family Planning." In the four days leading up to the conference, 22 family planning advocates from 14 countries learned about and applied AFP’s evidence-based, decision maker-centric advocacy approach to strengthen their local family planning efforts.

Following village-level budget advocacy efforts led by district working groups, 364 additional villages in Indonesia took the initial step to allocate local funding for family planning. In Karanganyar district (162 villages), the Mayor signed an endorsement letter for Village Heads on January 27, 2015, to allocate for family planning, particularly long-acting permanent methods (LAPM).
